Leading marathon runners from around the world will contest the 36th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon in Queensland, Australia, on Sunday 6 July 2014. The 2014 Gold Coast Airport Marathon is an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Gold Label Road Race and is a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). The course is officially accredited by Athletics Australia and the IAAF.

Whilst featuring a fierce elite field, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon will also attract more than 30,000 participants of all ages and abilities from around the world. Runners will come from all over Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, North America, Europe, Africa, UK and Oceania to take part in the event

The highlight is being able to run on a fast, flat and scenic course in one of the world's most popular beach holiday destinations. The Gold Coast climate is traditionally good for running, with low humidity, no wind and mild temperatures, creating great conditions to achieve a personal best time. The race program includes the full 42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon, The Gold Coast Airport Marathon course is renowned worldwide for being flat, fast and scenic, taking in the beautiful broad water and sparkling surf beaches. Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart said this year's Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be one of the most significant in the event's history. "With the designation of the IAAF Road Race Gold Label and the announcement of the Australian Marathon Championships, this year's event is set to be one of the biggest and best," Mr Hart said. In addition to running a course rated alongside some of the world's most illustrious races such as the New York City Marathon and Tokyo Marathon, participants will witness some of Australia's best marathoners in action with the Australian Marathon Championships hosted on Sunday 6th of July 2014

The current men's course record holder and 2:08:10 marathoner, Yuki Kawauchi from Japan, is set to return to the Gold Coast and the current course record of 2:10:01 is expected to be broken.

Also in 2014 the elite runners are striving for a victory purse of $15,000 (1st place men and women) plus performance bonuses and are supported by huge crowds along the course and at the finish line.
