Whilst featuring a fierce elite field, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon will also attract more than 30,000 participants of all ages and abilities from around the world. Runners will come from all over Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, North America, Europe, Africa, UK and Oceania to take part in the event

The highlight is being able to run on a fast, flat and scenic course in one of the world’s most popular beach holiday destinations. The Gold Coast climate is traditionally good for running, with low humidity, no wind and mild temperatures, creating great conditions to achieve a personal best time. The race program includes the full 42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon, The Gold Coast Airport Marathon course is renowned worldwide for being flat, fast and scenic, taking in the beautiful broad water and sparkling surf beaches.

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon has become the first Australian marathon race to attain the prestigious international designation – an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Road Race Bronze Label – putting it in esteemed company around the world. The sport’s world governing body, the IAAF, annually awards IAAF Road Race Labels to only those marathons that meet criteria for excellence in the delivery of the race.

It was an Ethiopia and Japan double at the record-breaking 34th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon 2012 held in beautiful running conditions on Queensland’s Gold Coast in Australia.

An event record of 28,224 took part across all races including the most finishers ever in an Australian marathon race (5,094). This added additional gloss to the performances of Gold Coast Airport Marathon race winners the late Alemayehu Shumye from Ethiopia (men) and Kaori Yoshida (Japan). Shumye became the first Ethiopian man to win the Gold Coast Airport Marathon clocking 2:10:35, just missing out on the race record by a meagre 35 seconds.

Also in 2013 the elite runners are striving for a victory purse of $15,000 plus performance bonuses and are supported by huge crowds along the course and at the finish line.
