29th Kitzbühel Alpenrally: 180 Teams going on a big trip through the most spectacular roads in the Alps.
Classic cars conquer the Hochkönig, Rossfeld and Sudelfeld mountain roads. Alpine rally held on historic mountain routes.
Since 1988, the Alpenrally has been one of the leading classic car events in Europe. The unique mix of dreamy Alpine landscapes, breath-taking mountain stretches, an exclusive touch, a challenging contest and the flair of the glamorous Alpine town of Kitzbühel make the event a must for lovers of classic cars from across Europe, as well as a place where famous competitors face each other every year from motor racing, show business, business and sport.
New Route 2016
The Kitzbühel Alpenrallye is one of the leading Austrian events for classic cars. From the 1st till the 4th of June 2016, 180 teams are set to go on a big trip through the most spectacular roads in the Alps. This time, along with many exciting mountain stages in Tyrol and Salzburg, there will be some mountain sections with incredible motorsport history to contend with – the Rossfeld High Alpine Road at Berchtesgaden, the Sudelfeld Mountain Route at Bayrischzell and the Hochkönig Route at Bischofshofen.
The tour of the Salzkammergut, originally planned for Friday, has needed to be rearranged due to roadworks – but loads of other highlights have been put in place for rally contestants. The 180 or so teams are set to be compensated with magnificent panoramic Alpine views amid the incredibly delightful landscape of Salzburgerland with the gigantic mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps, Hochkönig, Hohe Tauern, Loferer Steinberge and Dachstein – the breathtaking Rossfeld mountain stage is also set to be a major highlight.
Of course there are to be many spectacular Alpine stages as highlights of the route again. The 2016 Alpenrallye is also offering a select choice of fascinating new route sections with delightful landscapes – routes that are also loaded in motor sport history like the Hochkönig Road, the Rossfeld Route and Tatzelwurm Route at Sudelfeld. Around 600 kilometres in Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria are to be completed in three days of competition. There will be racing held in two categories – Sport Trophy (competitive) and Classic Trophy (leisure).
NEW LATEST YEAR OF CONSTRUCTION - 1972: GOING INTO THE FUTURE WITH MORE HISTORY
There is a new latest year of construction of 1972 for vehicles taking part (which was previously 1985). The Alpenrally is therefore taking a step back in the history of classic cars – a step fully in accordance with the philosophy of the traditional competition. Classic cars from six decades of automotive history are to take on the mountains at the 28th Alpenrallye, including models from big names like Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce. Magnificent pre-war classics, elegant sports cars and precious saloons will demonstrate a wide range of automobile history.
Rare Classic Cars
Another special highlight will be the museums and collections of the Volkswagen Group, who are once again showing some exclusive rare items in Kitzbühel and contesting the rally with twelve classic cars (driven by famous drivers).
