Event Description
The 2014 WWA Wake Park World Championships hosted by Al Forsan International Sports Resort has set a new standard over the three day event in Abu Dhabi, UAE from November 5-7th, 2014. This elite event highlights the world’s best amateur and professional wakeboarders and wakeskaters in both traditional “cable” divisions and “Features only” divisions. The event hand out an additional $10,000 USD in prize money from previous years, raising the total amount to a sum of $40,000 USD, but also brought in top notch DJs, intense karting races and perfect conditions for riders to lay down the most insane riding.
In the “Traditional Style” formats, wakeboarders and wakeskaters had the cable to themselves as they put together their best pass including flats tricks, rail ticks and kicker tricks.
The top ranked pro riders such as Daniel Grant (THA), Aaron Gunn (AUS) and Julia Rick (GER) threw down tricks like nose grabbed S-Mobe 5s, Stalefish KGBs and Frontside 1080s all while pressing out each rail to the max in a single run.
In the “Features only” divisions, a crowd and rider favorite, which is a unique format in which four riders are loaded up on the cable at the same time, a timer is set and with unlimited falls, riders can go all out to get the absolute best tricks possible. Each rider’s single best hit in each section of the park is used for scoring.
Pro Features top ranking riders, such as Tom Fooshee (USA), Yonel Cohen (USA), Chandler Powell (USA) and Courtney Angus showed us what true wakeboarding looks like. And not to forget the two final winners Daniel Grant (THA) & Julia Rick (GER) who rocked the show and secured the trophy and the ‘Cable World Champion’ title for themselves.
The crowd went crazy when Pro Men’s Features winner Aaron Gunn (USA) landed a Mute to Stalefish Heelside 900 while traveling over 25 meters and 5 meters high, which got a well deserve “Oh My God are you kidding me!” shout from our on-site announcer Dean Smith.
“This event was freaking insane and I enjoyed every minute of it!” said Aaron Gunn (AUS), shortly after getting his trophy. It’s not that often that we can see such an amazing pool of international talent, all together in one place!” (WWA Reporter)
