Gold Coast Airport Marathon 2011, Australia, 3rd of July 2011, 7.10 am
Held in one of the world’s most beautiful and popular holiday destinations in Queensland, Australia, the event is expected to attract more than 25,000 participants from all over the world.
Runners will come from all over Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, North America, Europe, Africa, UK and Oceania to take part in the event which has a strong elite race but also a race for everyone.
The race program includes the full 42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon, The Gold Coast Airport Marathon course is renowned worldwide for being flat, fast and scenic, taking in the beautiful broadwater and sparkling surf beaches. The climate is traditionally good for running, with low humidity, no wind and mild temperatures, creating great conditions to achieve a personal best time.
Last year’s men’s marathon winner was James Kariuki from Kenya in 2:13:53 and women’s winner was Kaori Yoshida from Japan in 2:31:33. There is $55,000 plus bonus prize money up for grabs for the elite runners.
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon also hosts several national and international running championships, and is supporting the Gold Coast’s bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Since its first staging in 1979, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon has grown to now attract more than 25,000 runners from around the world. Organised by Events Queensland Gold Coast, it has won the Queensland Tourism Awards Best Major Event/Festival for the past two years.

Television Documentary
Five Australian runners who will be running their first-ever marathon at the 2011 Gold Coast Airport Marathon have been selected to feature in a television documentary. The documentary will tell the story of these five determined runners from their training for the ultimate of human challenges to their experiences on race day. Television viewers around the world will be able to relate to one of these runners and show that anyone can achieve their personal goals and dreams. Set to be an inspirational story, it will also showcase one of Australia’s premier races and the beautiful location of the Gold Coast.
